Report from the Rhone

Today was our first full day on our Rhone tour. Last night we had our opening dinner at a family run restaurant that I found in the Michelin Guide: JP Pequet; a wonderful dinner highlighted by foie gras stuffed ravioli. Lyon is a beautiful city and without question the culinary capital of a food conscious country.

This morning we left for the quick ride to Ampuis and a great visit- and of course tasting- at one of the Northern Rhone’s most heralded wineries: E. Guigal. It’s one of the largest wineries in the Rhone with some of the most expensive: La Turque Cote Rotie is about 150 euros.

Then we walked a few steps down the street to a very nice lunch at Bistro de Serine, owned by several wineries. We followed lunch by visiting the winery of one of the owners: Yves Cuilleron. After checking into our hotel in Tain l’Herimitage, many of us walked through the town to become familiar with our home for the next 3 evenings.
