Day 5- Bio-Dynamic Wine Growing in the Rhone

Today’s beginning was a treat; first we had to make our way to Domaine Montirius, the last part of which the bus had to back up the road since it was so narrow. Adventures every day! Christine and Eric Saurel greeted us and explained their devotion to complete bio-dynamic farming and wine making. Under their tutelage we sampled 3 of the Gigondas that were fermenting and tried to guess which sample they had selected. They later revealed which sample they selected earlier that morning and why. I’ll be posting an entire blog when I return on biodynamic farming; it is a real interesting topic. We tasted with them 6 wines including their 92 Parker points Vacqueyras. It was a delightful and informative morning and everyone seemed to enjoy it very much.
Next we had lunch in the tiny town of Sarrians followed by a visit to the University of Wine and finally a visit to the cooperative in Suze where people werebuying wine from an apparatus that looked like a gas pump.
