Hard to top yesterday’s visits but we started with an excellent visit to Chateau Virant, Aix en Provence AOC. This family owned winery involves all 4 family members and we were greeted by daughter Christine Cheylan, who is in charge of the olive oil production. We had a tour of not only the modern olive oil mill as well as the wine cellars. This was followed by a tasting of their wines and olive oils, then a very nice catered lunch featuring all their wines and olive oils. I love buffets: they offer the chance to try a variety of local delicacies, but you have to be careful not to overindulge.

We then departed from a wine theme by visiting the Museum of Aromas and Perfumes in Graveson and learned how therapeutic aromas and perfumes are produced.

We ended the day by a stop at les Baux de Provence: a majestic fortress on a promontory of bauxite. It was truly worth the walk to the top to see the catapults and ruins of the fortress. We covered all our bases today: wine, cuisine and culture.
