My wife and I look forward to January and February each year when we escape the Northeast with its inevitable snow and cold weather to head south to Miami where our son lives.
It’s a vacation from the weather, but not from wine. In fact each year we are able to attend as many wine trade activities as we would in New York. There are trade tastings galore: I’ve already been to the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux tasting at the Fontainebleau and to La Nuit en Rosé tasting of over 60 rosé wines at the swank newly reopened The Edition Hotel also on Miami Beach.
Tomorrow I head to the Coral Gables Country Club for the annual Vini d’Italia tasting of Italian wines and next week I see my fellow wine buddy Charlie Aratuola in a panel forum of Italian wines held in downtown Miami.
Add to this my find of the year: a wine shop that does weekly tastings of a very high quality and all for $20 pp with the purchase of at least 1 bottle of wine. Last Wednesday we tasted 19 wines and this week it’s ZinFest with 20 great Zins.
If you are ever in the Fort Lauderdale area, check out Best Cellar and tell Richard that Vin sent you. You won’t regret the experience.
