Rioja Heat Means Earlier Harvest in 2015

A recent report in Decanter Magazine indicates that most Rioja winemakers anticipate an earlier harvest this year, in some cases almost a month earlier. It has been a hot summer with frequent temps 40 C or higher. (The Marottoli method to convert to fahrenheit is pretty simple: double and add 30, so 40+40+30= 110F)

What was of particular interest to me were the quotes from the 3 winemakers, all of whom we’ll be visiting on our October tour: Sierra Cantabria, Viña Tondonia and Remelluri.
