Top 5 Wines and Wineries of Sardinia

Our first ever tour of Sardinia had some wonderful experiences with our usual targets of wine, food and culture. The two top guns on the island are Argiolas and Sella and Mosca and didn’t disappoint; they have the money, longevity and the know-how. But what was surprising was the scope and quality of smaller, much newer wineries. Unfortunately many of their wines are not yet available in the States, but following the successful coattails of the more established wineries, I predict they will be available in the not so distant future.

So here they are, the top 5 wines of Sardinia as judged by our 21 fellow wine lovers:

  • #5 – a tie – Mesa Buio Buio Riserva 2013 and Mesa Opale Dopo 2012
  • #4– Pala Stellato 2014
  • #3 – Soletta Keramos 2007
  • #2 – Argiolas Turriga 2011
  • #1 – Agripunica Barrua 2012, Sassicaia’s entry in Sardinia hits gold
