As most wine lovers are aware, the Wine Spectator annually selects their top 100 wines of the year.

They start with thousands of entries ( 2017 had 17,000 possible winners) and narrow the number to 100.

It must be a tough job, but the top wines must meet 4 criteria established by WS: ‘high score, large production, value pricing and …excitement.’
We at Wine Lovers Tours are delighted to have visited many of the wineries that produce these wines, in many cases years in advance of the selection.

Are we prescient? We are not pretentious to say that we can predict with certitude but call it what you may, we usually select visits based on past history or intimations of great things to come.We counted the number of wineries we have visited over the years and are proud of the results. For instance in 2017, we had already visited 20 of the wineries selected for the coveted Top 100 list. And here they are:
