Whenever I’m in South Florida, I always try to attend at least one tasting at The Best Cellar in Wilton Manor. Richard Stetler has been organizing these wonderful events in his feel-at-home store, The Best Cellar, for decades. Each week it’s a different theme and they run
Wednesday through Sunday.
This week’s event was Zinfest, the 69th iteration of some of the best Zins in the world. In all we had 15 wines all but one being Zins and although I’m not a big Zin fan, I always find something I enjoy. Topics can range from French to Italian, Cabernet to Syrah; Richard varies the theme and the wines being featured are all gems.
Even if you don’t enjoy the wines (which is rare), Richard is a consummate entertainer who draws upon his experience and industry contacts to instruct and bring colorful background information.
Wilton Manor is in Broward County about 25 minutes to downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Richard charges $25 for the tastings and although no purchase is required, most people leave with at least a few bottles, and if you consider the discount and his low prices, you almost attend the tasting free. If you’re a wine lover, you’ll feel right at home in the Best Cellar.
