Today is our last full day on the Islands. We had 2 distinct activities. First we boarded a private boat and
went to Vulcano Island, the closest to Lipari.
Vulcano has an active volcano and 4 members of our group actually hiked to the top with gorgeous breathtaking views of the crater. The rest of us went walking on the lower part and visit the sulfur mud baths (odoriferous!), the Black Beach and other sights.
We then had lunch with some typical Aeolian cuisine before boarding our boat to return to Lipari. After some rest, our minibus whisked us to an agriturismo, La Casa Gialla, where we spent 4 hours learning about how life was on the island 100 years ago, and then watching 2 talented local chefs prepare our meal.
We had an excellent lesson on pasta making and also the special non-tomato sauce which accompanied the pasta. We had plenty of home made wine and had a thoroughly enjoyable day experiencing Aeolian culture.
