Lavender, Truffles & Wine: The Magic of Provence & Southern France – 7 day / 6 night Wine Lovers Tour
Provence evokes images of fields of lavender and olive groves. It’s a sun-soaked paradise for French wine tasting which welcomes visitors with open arms and spectacular scenery around every bend in the road. With vivid colors (sunflowers, vineyards, lavender and seas), rolling hillsides, mountain gorges and scenic towns, this is truly, one of the most beautiful and picturesque areas of France.
We can thank Peter Mayle for our infatuation with Provence which started well over 20 years ago. After writing “A Year in Provence” and “Toujours Provence,” Peter inspired many Americans to discover this gorgeous area. In our humble opinion this is France at its best; if there are any naysayers about France, this area will convince them to become a francophile. The cuisine, the warmth of the people, the culture and the outstanding wines combine to make any visit here so memorable.
We’ll travel to Aix-en-Provence, our home for 2 nights. Aix is a superb base to immerse ourselves in the heart of Peter Mayle’s territory, visit wineries and experience the famous Provençal-style cuisine.
We’ll then stay in Avignon, another great base to discover the wines of the Southern Rhone. The most famous wines produced here are in Chateauneuf-du-Pape but there are many rising stars such as Gigondas, Vacqueyras and let’s not overlook the best rosé in France: Tavel.
Finally, we’ll move on to Montpellier, in the heart of the Languedoc for 2 nights. The Languedoc is famous for its garrigue landscape which even permeates the olfactory dimensions of the wine.
When our tour concludes, you’ll carry home cherished memories of glorious moments spent in this idyllic part of France. Peter Mayle made his claim to fame with “A Year in Provence” and after our tour who knows…you just may be well qualified to write your own abridged version of “A Week in Provence!”
